The Historical Society Museum Shop planning for another great season

The Historical Society of Sarasota County is looking for local artisans, writers, artists and creators of “One of a Kind” articles to sell in the Museum Shop of treasures, located in the detached kitchen of the Bidwell-Wood House (the oldest house in Sarasota).

The shop, which opened in 2009, is one of Sarasota’s Best Kept Secrets and features a wide assortment of gift items for your home and as a treasured reminder of your visit to Sarasota.

The hours are: 10:00 – 2:00 Mondays through Fridays and certain Saturdays each month, and from 6pm on the 2nd Tuesday of each month, prior to the monthly “Conversations in the Crocker” membership meetings.

The shop will be manned by volunteers, including our artisans who will receive 70% of the consignment sale prices, if they consent to working one day per month or more.

We welcome new vendors and more information can be had by emailing Jane at the Historical Society: or by calling the office @ 941-364-9076.

Classes on the Back Porch” are again being offered this season, so if you are eager to teach an “historic crafts class” please call Linda at the office for more information on times and dates available for your class!

Wait till you see the gorgeous handcrafts that have been arriving at our Gift Shop for the past two weeks! I’m truly amazed at the talents of Sarasota’s residents. Yes, we have knitters, but chic, cool scarves are coming in that sure weren’t in style when your Granny was busy with HER needles. Garden Art, Modern Art, things for Mommies of toddlers, tote bags for dog lovers, for fishermen, for mommies and Shoppers too! Books of all kinds by local authors, soy soaps and lovely candles, jewelry, Vintage home decor stuff, you name it, we’ve got it…. Need a Gator scarf for Homecoming? How bout a Hoya one? Judy says she can get one to you in about two weeks. Jozette says she can make you a rug out of your old Blue Jeans, in fact they were selling like hotcakes in her Penna. hometown this summer, before she could even take them off the loom!
Stop in, on Friday Oct. 5th for our Grand Re-Opening Wine and Cheese Reception, on
the Back Porch of the Bidwell House! 5pm – 8pm Bring your plastic! yep, we now take credit cards !! See you soon! Jane
